Creative Media Research: Secondary research (My Documentary)

Primary research is a form of analyzing which consists of various methods. The forms secondary research I will be studying for my documentary will be 'B.A.R.B', Youtube clips, and Wikapedia . I will explain the advantages and disadvantages in this essay.

  • B.A.R.B
  • Youtube clips
  • Wikapedia
One form of secondary research is B.A.R.B is the organisation that compiles audience measurement
and television ratings within Britain. An advantage of B.A.R.B is that the mesurment of the numbers are acurrate. One of the disadvantages is that because it’s all based on figures, it’s not always up to date. It’s usually in constant need of updating because numbers change.

Another form of secondary research are 'Youtube' clips. Youtube is a video-sharing website owned by Google which users comenly use for video blogging. An advantage of this is that everyone can upload a video onto this website, so you are likley to find what you are looking for. A disadvantage of this is that many videos are inappropriate for children and are not educational. Youtube also incoprates adverts on their video's.Adverts that you have to watch for at least 5 seconds. This can be frustration from a researchers point of view.

Wikipedia is another form of secondary research. Wikipedia is an internet encyclopedia which holds thirty million artiucles in two-hundred and eighty-seven languages. An advantage of Wikipedia is that it is easy and quick to find information. A disadvantage of Wikipedia is that the information is not always reliable, and it can be written by people with little or no knowlage of the subject that you are reseaching. I will use the basic facts listed on wikipedia, but for more detialed explaintions I will look for speicalist or academic websites and look for historical sources in books about gorse hall or Tameside history.
